Say what, now?

Have to be super fast, but this is one of those that you have to get down quickly before you forget!

Grandma, Caleb, Gavi and I were at Applebee's for lunch today. (YUM!) There was a television near our table, and Caleb would occasionally look up at it. On one of these times, he pointed at the television and hollered, "WHORE!" When Grandma and I looked at the television, there was a commercial for Las Vegas, and some scantily clad ladies dancing around. We kind of looked at each other with that mixture of disbelief and hilarity when kids say something funny. I said, "What, honey?"

"Whore!" he yelled again, even more gleefully than before. We didn't know what to make of it, so we sort of mutually decided to ignore the whole thing.

It happened again, and when we looked up, it was a basketball game. (No cheerleaders in sight, either!) Then my mom looked directly beneath the television. It was a HORN! Grandma says it's a tuba, I say some sort of french horn. Either way, it's nice that our sweet Caleb isn't turning into some sort of horrible little person!

LOL! That totally cracked me up. I don't know if you should bring him for a visit, he might offend some folks.

An update for your Thursday pleasure...

Two days ago, I got some video of the following: (since it won’t be up for a while because Jonny is traveling like crazy!) Gavi was sitting in the boys’ room, perfectly content on a floor that had been newly cleared of all clutter. Caleb sat nearby, reading a book. I realized that I needed to get the next load of laundry done, so I got up and left the room.

As soon as I left, Gavi kicked up a fuss as he is wont to do. But I could hear Caleb trying to reassure him. I unloaded the dryer, heard a thump and assumed Gavi had fallen over because he does that when he cries. So I moved clothes from the washer to the dryer, heard another thump, and went running.

Caleb had dumped two of his toy crates on the (clean!) floor, and was looking for toys for his brother. He started piling up soft ones and rattly ones around Gavi, all the while trying to comfort him. Gavi kept screaming – upright! – so I went to re-load the washer. By the time I returned to the room, every toy in the room was on the floor, every corner scoured for something to make Gavriel Zakai happy. I’m not kidding, it was like he was a petulant king that a lowly serf was trying to please.

I just got video of Gavi hollering and surrounded by his treasures. It was marvelous.

The other weird thing is that Caleb has just gotten into the double stroller lately. When Gavi was like less than a month, we took it to the store, and since then, I’ve just used the single because Caleb prefers to walk. But it all changed earlier this week and I have some pros and cons.

Pro: We can walk a little faster.

Con: We can walk a little faster – that stroller weighs a hundred pounds with the two of them!

Pro: We can get to the park and home more quickly, meaning that we have longer to spend at the park.

Con: Caleb isn’t getting tired walking, so all his excess energy seems to be diverted to his mouth. When Mommy is tired, she doesn’t have the patience to answer fifty million questions about flags or garage doors or big trucks or school buses or fire trucks or... you get the idea.

Gavi is being dedicated at our church on Sunday the 27th! The Fashbaugh parents are coming to town, and the church already okayed it! Yay! So if any of you are interested in joining us, just give me a holler!

Oh! And one more exciting thing: Gavi goes to bed when Caleb does now, and generally sleeps through until 5:30. It’s cutting a nap out of his day, but worth it when Jonathan and I are ready for bed at 8:30! And already he and Caleb are talking to each other when we put them down. If Gavi starts to cry, Caleb reassures him. It’s so awesome to have a teeny house so that our boys have to share a room!

Happy April!

When I started this blog entry a week ago, Gavi had just started getting his knees up beneath him. Now he constantly rocks back and forth on his hands and knees. I don’t know the progression, but I suspect we’re not more than a few weeks from crawling. Oy! Like things aren’t insane enough already!

The most fun thing of the last week is that I get to make baby food again! MAN, is that fun! I don’t know what it is about it that makes me so happy, but I literally get all giggly just thinking about it! Gavi started out as not a fan of either the peas or carrots, then the carrots started to grow on him, and now I mix the two when I can’t get him to eat the peas. He sure eats a LOT!

Caleb has started to do the classic older sibling thing of speaking on behalf of the younger. However, he has to preface everything by explaining why he’s doing it: “He doesn’t talk.” I’ve heard that phrase about three dozen times a day for the last week. Anytime I say hello to Gavi, Caleb retorts, “He doesn’t talk.” Anytime a stranger coos at him, Caleb butts in, “He doesn’t talk.” At this point, I’m looking forward to Gavi talking just so Caleb quits saying that he doesn’t!

But they’re very sweet together. Caleb will scotch down on the floor and offer Gavi his hair to play with. And I gave Gavi a small bottle with some juice, and Caleb helped him hold it. They’ll pull up to the mirrors in our living room together and just laugh at each other for a long time. In about six months, my job is going to be SOOOOO much easier, because my two littles are going to be totally self-entertaining!

We went to Casa Bonita for a birthday party. Goodness gracious, I will never do that again without an entourage whose sole purpose is to watch Caleb. Even though every adult there was so gracious and helped – there was only the birthday boy, Caleb, Gavi, and a sweet baby girl two months older than Gavi – I still felt completely wrung out by the time we left. I actually LOST him at one point. The terrifying thing was that it was while we were watching the cliff divers, so we were right next to the water. For about a minute, I ran around frantic until my friend spotted him at the top of the stairs. That little booger can really move!
