Breathing The New Air of God
I watched The Abyss the other day. It occured to me that the scene where Bud Brinkman is taking in the liquid air in the deep sea diving suit, is a great spiritual illustration.
You see, when we have sin hidden in our hearts, it can feel very scary to let that sin out. When the occasion arises to confess our sin, we feel like freaking out because it's literally unnatural to open ourselves up like that, exposing our sin. Inside, we feel like Bud Brinkman, flailing about because he thinks that he's drowning in a pink liquid.
In reality, if we just trust God, we find that we're better off without the sin in our hearts, and we begin breathing in his forgiveness that allows us to live freely, or in Bud Brinkman's case, liquid air that allows him to dive more than 20,000 yards into a undersea canyon.
By the way, to those that haven't seen the Abyss, I apologize because this will likely make no sense whatsoever.
