Back To the Future I, II, & III

Starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thoompson, Crispin Glover
Directed by Robert Zemeckis, Produced by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall

These movies give a light-hearted look at time travel as it effects the life of a highschool student, Marty McFly. The first chapter of the story introduces Marty as a young man with a life that is good, but not bereft of problems. His problems are compounded when his friend and local scientist, Doc Brown, asks Marty to observe a special experiment. Marty's life is changed forever when, in an attempt to escape from Libyan terrorists, he accidently travels back to 1955. In the sequel, after making his way back to 1985, Marty is confronted by Doc who is newly returned from the year 2015. He tells Marty that they have to go back to the future to change the destiny of Marty's kids. The last installment of the Back to the Future movies begins with Doc Brown pleasantly stranded in the year 1885. In 1955, Marty learns that Doc's life will come to a tragic, early end at the hand of a savage criminal, "Mad Dog" Tanin. Determined to change history, Marty enlists the help of the 1955 Doc Brown to travel back to 1885 on a mission to save Doc Brown's life.

Movie Reviews of Back To the Future I, II, & III

Back to the Future I
This is a classic. There were a few movies from my childhood that have withstood the test of time (a couple decades anyway). This is definitely one of them. If you have been living under a rock, you still should have seen this movie. If the rock oppressed you and made you worship a stone statue of the rock and forbid anyone under its tyranny to watch movies then maybe you have an excuse.

Michael J. Fox was so good in this role. Unfortunately, it has since been rare to see him act in any other character, but this character was perfect and original in the Back to the Future movies.

I love the nuances of these films. Little future jokes and the like are sprinkled about, and those are cute, but even beyond that. Just things that play with your mind a little.

Back to the Future II
This was my favorite of the three films. I love all the funny future stuff. As a kid, I was entralled with the idea of riding a hover board. Check out Elijah Wood as a little boy in the Cafe 80's.

Back to the Future III
This was my least favorite of the Back to the Future movies, but it's still a great movie. In fact, I would saw that seeing Doc Brown in love was a tender side of the story that was a great way to end the trilogy.

Back to the Future I
This is the movie that I most remember seeing in the theater as a kid. Not because it was the most memorable film, or affected me in any overly emotional way ~ it was the "To be Continued" at the end. I was hacked off in a major way. It was the first time I'd seen a movie that didn't wrap everything up in it's two hour span and I was so angry about it that I couldn't even appreciate the movie I'd just seen.

However, I'm older now, and can move beyond my initial irritation. (Mainly because I can watch the next movie in the series without having to wait a couple years.)This movie rocks! I feel like maybe there was less political crap involved in making movies back then, because there is no character that is so out of place that you're like, "Oh, that's probably the producers cousin." I rarely comment on casting as a whole, but this is good!

The script and story are absolutely amazing. If I could write something a quarter this good, I'd never work another day in my life. I'd seriously rest on those laurels. Every sequence in all three movies meshed with both what had come previously and what was to come.

Most fun in my opinion was the multiple characters and ages played by such fine actors. I know you're not supposed to love the bad guy, but Biff was amazing! (Especially as Griff. Yum!)

Back to the Future II
This was the first time that the consequences of Marty's actions actually came through. A bit moralistic of me, but I felt like it needed to be pointed out! I loved the continuation of the first movie, and the sense of history repeating itself in a lot of ways.

Back to the Future III
This used to be my least favorite, but when viewed in context of the first two films, it's really pretty incredible. I think part of the problem is just that I'm not a huge fan of westerns. I'm trying to grow up, I promise!
