First StrikeStarring Jackie Chan, Directed by Stanley TongIn First Strike, Jackie Chan uses a variety of slick martial arts moves and weapons of the all sorts (even a step ladder) to beat the tar out of international spies. This is one of his bigger movies, using lots of stunts and comedy. The film takes place in Ukraine, Russia, and Australia. |

| Jackie Chan is one of, if not the best, action star there ever was. The action sequences in this movie are great, and Jackie is charming as always. The comedy in all of Jackie's movies seems a little off, probably because of the cultural gap that they're trying to bridge. For instance, the last line of the movie, "I want a full report, simple yet detailed, starting at the beginning." Still the worst jokes just come off as corn-ballish, and are still a chuckle. This is my second favorite Jackie Chan movie after Rumble in the Bronx. | While I tend to not enjoy the beginning of Jackie Chan movies - weird dubbing, implausible plot setups, and too many characters for me to keep track of - as soon as Jackie gets to let loose a little bit, I adore them. The reluctant and accidental hero role that he so often takes on is one of my favorites. The calling card of his films, the killer fight sequences, followed by even more killer outtakes of those same fight sequences is in full force here. You can be a complete non-action film fan and still get a kick out of it. The seal hat alone during the snowboarding scene is worth the price of rental, but throw in Jackie Chan stripped down to his koala bear skivvies, and this is a movie well worth watching! Forget the storyline, suspend disbelief, and get ready to enjoy an hour and a half of some of the best that martial arts comedy has to offer! | |
