Disney's Hot Lead & Cold FeetStarring Jim Dale and Don KnottsWhen twin brothers Billy and Eli meet for the first time, they don't embrace ~ Billy shoots at Eli and swears that he "don't need no spitting image." Much to Billy's dismay, they're pitted against each other in a race for the inheritance their father left for the winner. Still, he and everyone in Bloodshy assume that Billy is a shoe-in to win the race. There's laughter and excitement at every turn of the wild-west race to the finishline, but if the mayor of Bloodshy gets his way, neither brother will survive to spend a dime of the inheritance. |

I have to admit it, I really like this movie. The little kid actors are pretty obnoxious, but when you consider the age of the movie, their obnoxiousness is almost quaint. I love Don Knotts. He's so ridiculous! I really haven't seen a movie that I haven't loved him in. Now, I don't love all the movies that he's in, but I love him in them. Hot Lead & Cold Feet is one movie where I like the entire package. Jim Dale is so enjoyable as both Eli and Billy. Makes you realize what makes him such a great reader for the Harry Potter audio books. Anyway, if you're looking to expand your family movie library, Hot Lead & Cold Feet is a great choice. |
I found this movie previously-viewed for four dollars, remembered it from my childhood and set about trying to convince my honey to enjoy it with me. Reading Jonathan's review, you'd never guess that it took me a FULL YEAR to get him to watch it. Sad but true. Jim Dale is fantastic in all three roles he plays in this film. I personally appreciate him the most in the part of Wild Billy the gunslinging bad boy of Bloodshy. Even though I know he's also Eli, he's just sexier as Billy. Oops, kids movie. I forgot that the point isn't to rate the appeal of the main characters. This movie is quintessential old Disney. Not the best of the genre, but certainly better than a lot of the garbage movies that come out these days. I might appreciate it a little more if I weren't so mad for The Apple Dumpling Gang - this one seems slightly inferior. But it's still enjoyable: Eli's clueless innocence will keep you laughing. It might also leave you longing just a little bit for the days when movies were more about coming together than becoming number one. |
